Four Seasons Blog Hop with Island Batik

Welcome to the blog hop showing new collections of beautiful fabrics from Island Batik. You can also find many interesting giveaways if you follow the blog hop throughout January. Here you can find the Island Batik giveaway, and on the bottom of this post you'll find one from me. And on all blogs on the list you can win fabric, patterns etc. by commenting on the posts.

Island Batik Ambassadors were sent different collections of the newest fabics arriving the shops just now. My collection is called ELEMENTZ, and if you know me, you can see that these fabrics really suit me, bright and colorful.

The theme is spring, and I started out with these wonderful green fabrics.

But soon I found that I had to really show you the Norwegian spring. It's pretty unique, because you often can find all four seasons in the same week. Yes, and sometimes even during a day you can find them all. The weather is rapidly changing from morning to evening.

My thoughts started to turn around the logo for this blog hop. I used all the fabrics in a beautiful mix like this. The squares are 3 1/2".

And with the appliques it ended up like this. Finished size: 36" x 36".

My giveaway is a first aid kit pouch with scraps and leftovers from this quilt. It's open to all readers all over the world. Just leave me a comment here to be in the draw. I'd love to hear where you are from and what your favorite color is. I'll pick a winner at February 2.

La Passion - 15 400 hexagons

Another hundred, and if you look at the first picture, you think it's finished already. But the next will show that there's still a way to go. Thank you Grit Kovacs for making this pattern.

On Ringo Lake Mystery quilt

Bonnie Hunter's mysteries are so fun to sew. This one is a consentration exercise. I've got some blocks together, and today I tried to put on sashings. And I think I have to take some more time before I start that process. I had to look at many other's, and found that people struggle with how they turn the pieces.

I had to find this work today, and I hoped that it had grown on it's own. But no, so I had to do another hundred myself. With snow and wind outside, I had to take some bad photoes inside. As you can see, I've also started the last corner.

Jan 8 - Blue Moon Collection
Jan 9 - Mountains Majesty
Jan 10 - Alpine Ice
Jan 11 - Alpine Jingle
Jan 15 - Elementz
Jan 16- Southern Blooms
Jan 17- Morning Sunshine
Jan 18 - Season's Shades
Jan 22 - Paisley Dot
Jan 23- Sunflower Serenade
Jan 24 - City Culture 2

With too much plastic around, it's good to have made this bag, reuse of old jeans. And I also used some of the hexies I made the last months.

Tutorial for my Christmas runner star

Yesterday you could read about my Island Batik table runner, Here I'll try to show you how I made the block used in that runner. You can use all your scraps in a special colour. And I can imagine that you also can make this block with mixed colours with a black or light background. I didn't have time to try that, but I certainly will later.

What you'll need for one block:
2 squares, 5 1/2", (1 red, 1 light)
2 squares, 5" (red)
1 square, 4 1/2" for the center of the star
4 paper patterns, 4", for the corner blocks, and some small scraps to sew them.

Start with the 5 1/2" squares. Draw a line from corner to corner and sew 1/4" on both sides. Then cut at the line.

You will now have two HSTs like these.

With the red 5" squares on top, draw a line and sew on both sides. Remember to start the line from the white corner to the red one.  Cut
You have now 4 blocks like this. Cut them to 4 1/2".

Cut the 4" papers, draw two lines from one corner to about the middle of two sides on one of them. You may chose the angle yourself. Sew without thread to get the sewing lines on all the blocks.

Find small scraps to cover the pieces.

Sew the side pieces on. Remember to do it one at the time, and iron the first to one side before you do the next.

You have now four blocks like this. Cut them with 1/4" around. The blocks will be 4 1/2".

Then you have to look at my block to join all the pieces together to get the full starblock. Good luck!

Island Batik December challenge

I'm a real scrap quilter. And as the challenge for the Island Batik ambassadors this month was to make a scrappy runner or table top, it was just perfect for me. I took all my red batiks, and figured out a pattern so that I could use almost every little piece of my scraps. I'll come back tomorrow with a little tutorial on how I made the blocks for this runner.

Santa and his helpers are watching the runner.

The quilting is done with Aurifil thread. That went like a dream.

I didn't have enough batik for the back side, but I found a beautiful red cotton fabric.
Finished size is 16"x43 ".

I was so happy with this block that I also made a blue one of the beautiful batiks from Island Batik. You can see more of their fabrics if you click the link.

On Ringo Lake Mystery quilt, #4

There are so many small blocks in this mystery. We've just passed half way, and I wonder how many clues are left. This is Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt for 2018, and great fun, I can tell you. This last part gave me a whole city of different houses.
